“Let Nature be your Guide: Create a Mandala ”
![]()
Mandala by Caroline S. Garrett, “Acorn of Patience”
The cycles of nature are rich in metaphor for our lives, and the elements of nature offer wonderful textures and shapes with which to create. Since winter is a time of rest and renewal , winter season invites us to reflect and restore ourselves while we re-create from the inside out. That is the purpose of this workshop “Let Nature be your Guide: Create a Mandala”.
We will “let nature be the guide” using techniques of meditation and reflection before creating a mandala. A mandala is a circle which circumscribes a sacred space. You will be guided in breathing methods based on a yogic practice called pranayama. Pranayama facilitates your creativity while bringing your mind into a relaxed and receptive state. We will have guided meditations to access the rich resource of imagination. Each mandala you create may use images or actual specimens from the natural environment. Our in this workshop is your own personal renewal. This is not a class on how to draw nature, but on using nature as inspiration. No art experience is necessary. Simple techniques for drawing and creating images will be shown. Materials are provided . At the end of the workshop you will have two mandalas to inspire you.
